IPTV Buffering: The Speed You Need and How to Fix It

Last reviewed:

Short answer

Streaming needs about 5 Mbps for HD and 15–20 Mbps for 4K, measured on the TV or box itself — not on your phone. Restart the router and the device, use a cable or move closer to the router, and set the date and time to automatic. If only one channel stutters, the issue is usually that channel’s source, not your connection.

Measure the speed where it matters

Your phone next to the router can show a fast result while the TV across the room gets a fraction of it. Run the speed test on the device you watch on — a speed-test app or the browser on the box. Compare with the numbers above.

7 checks, in the order that fixes most cases

  1. Restart the router and the device. Unplug both for 30 seconds.
  2. Use a network cable, or move the device closer to the router. Wi-Fi through walls is the most common cause.
  3. Close the subscription on other devices. Each subscription plays on one device at a time; a second device causes cut-outs and “Max connections”.
  4. Set date, time and time zone to automatic and restart — a wrong clock also breaks the TV guide.
  5. Refresh the channel list from the app’s settings to get the latest update.
  6. Test another channel. If only one channel stutters, it may be temporarily down at its source — tell us its name.
  7. Check others on your network. Large downloads or several 4K streams at home share the same line.

When to contact us

If the speed on the device is above 20 Mbps over a cable and it still buffers, or the same channels fail at the same time, contact us with the channel name and time — that tells us it is on our side to check.

Live works but movies do not?

Then your subscription is fine. Refresh the movies section in the app; if one title fails, try another and send us the name of the one that does not play.

Frequently asked questions

What internet speed does IPTV need?

About 5 Mbps for HD and 15–20 Mbps for 4K, measured on the watching device itself.

Why does only one channel buffer?

A single channel can be temporarily down at its source. Try another channel and tell us the name of the one that fails.

Does Wi-Fi cause buffering?

Often. Walls and distance reduce Wi-Fi speed on the TV. A network cable or moving closer to the router usually fixes it.
